LG Shows Off World's 1st Stretchable Display with Micro-LEDs

LG Shows Off World's 1st Display That Stretches From 12-inch to 14-inch Without Distortion

LG Display has developed a new display that can stretch up to 20%, allowing it to stretch from a 12-inch size to a 14-inch one. It offers a high pixel density (100ppi) and full-colour RGB. It uses a special silicon used in contact lenses to provide high flexibility and durability. LG has also developed a flexible spring-wired system that allows the display to stretch up to 10,000 times.

Stretchable displays have become a hot topic in the smartphone industry, but the technology is just beginning to get widespread adoption. LG's latest display has a silicon substrate and small LEDs for durability and high-resolution. While it is still a few years away from being available on a consumer level, it will likely find applications in wearable electronics, workwear, and even transportation. Other companies are also working on flexible displays.

LG says it has been working on stretchable displays since 2020, and has partnered with 20 organizations to develop its technology. It says it is committed to advancing Korean display technology and leading a paradigm shift in the industry. However, there are some problems. The company's display claims full color RGB, but that doesn't mean it has a wide color gamut. It also does not give a timetable for mass production.

LG Display says it wants to apply stretchable displays to other products. They are aiming to make it useful for automobiles, clothing, smart homes, and the gaming industry. The company has also shown how it can be attached to curved surfaces. Further, it can be adapted to be used in automobiles and airplanes.

The LG UltraFine 4K display is compatible with both Mac and Windows. Its two Thunderbolt 3 ports let you connect another display or external hard drive. It also features three USB-C ports. It supports Apple's latest iPad Pro and supports 4K resolution.

Its integrated power technology is housed inside the monitor's chassis, preventing the need for a bulky power brick. The screen comes with a stand and a display that is ready to use. It also supports 60W charging, which is sufficient to charge a 15-inch MacBook Pro.
