OBS Studio Now Supports Hardware Encoder Nvidia GeForce RTX 40 GPUs after OBS Studio 28.1 Update

The OBS Studio has just been updated to version 28.1 and it brings hardware-accelerated AV1 encoding support for Geforce RTX 40 series GPUs. Ada is a royalty-free video format that provides bitrates and quality that rivals HEVC. However, it is only compatible with the RTX 40 series GPUs, so users of other GPUs will have to install a special version of the software.

AV1 is a new format that supports video encoding and compression. It offers better quality for similar bitrates and is more efficient than H.264. It also has no licensing fee, unlike HEVC encoders which charge a fee. Despite the limitations of the new codec, there is every reason for the GPU market to pursue it. Intel Arc GPUs, which are capable of AV1 encoding, are available at a cost eleven times lower than a GeForce RTX 4090.

In addition to improving NVENC encoding, OBS Studio 28.1 brings NVENC support for the GeForce RTX 4090. Users will be able to see better FPS in games, and the new update will also provide faster video encoding for older video cards that support NVENC technology.

Nvidia and OBS have worked together to improve the RTX encoding capabilities of OBS Studio. Now, streaming professionals can get professional-grade video quality from a single PC setup. This will make the live-streaming industry more accessible for those who don't have expensive equipment or advanced audio hardware.

The new GeForce RTX 4090 also has excellent performance and size. Its three-dimensional graphics performance was scored at 9,921 in the 3DMark Speed Way test and 25,520 in the Port Regal beam following test. This makes it clear that the GeForce RTX 4090 is far more powerful than its predecessor.
