WhatsApp Bans 26 Lakh Accounts in India with Compliance New IT Rules

WhatsApp has banned over 26 lakh Indian accounts in compliance with the new IT Rules, 2021, which put more responsibilities on the social media platform. In September, the platform received 666 grievance reports from India, out of which 496 were related to the ban appeal. The rest were related to support and safety concerns.

As part of its efforts to curb abuse and improve the user experience, the company has deployed resources and tools to combat the problem. There are now three stages in which WhatsApp detects abuse - during messaging, during user feedback, and in the wake of complaints. The company is also working on new features, such as the ability for group administrators to delete messages.

The company also complies with regulations, and reports violations and abuses to its users. In July, WhatsApp received 574 complaints about rogue users, and banned 2.3 million bad accounts. These complaints resulted in the deletion of 26 lakh Indian accounts. The company also takes action against abusive users with automated systems.
